From Bedroom to Primary Suite: A Smart, Seamless Transformation
In 2021, we had the privilege of building this custom home for some great clients. A few years later, their needs evolved and they came back to us with a new goal: turning an existing bedroom into a true primary suite.
The objective was clear, add a full bathroom without expanding the home’s footprint. The solution required thoughtful planning, efficient use of space, and careful execution.

The Before: A Blank Canvas
The original room was a spacious, well-lit bedroom with warm wood floors and a simple layout. It functioned well as a secondary bedroom, but it lacked the privacy and convenience of a primary suite.
With a standard closet and open floor space, the room had strong potential. It just needed to be reimagined.

The Plan: Rethinking the Space
To make room for a bathroom, we relocated the existing closet. This allowed us to carve out a dedicated area for the new bath while still maintaining a comfortable bedroom layout.
By working within the existing footprint, we avoided the need for an addition while still dramatically improving the functionality of the space.

The Build: Bringing the Vision to Life
During framing, you can see how the new bathroom footprint takes shape within the original bedroom. Every wall placement was intentional, defining not just the bathroom itself, but also how the space flows from the bedroom.
At this stage, we also roughed in plumbing and electrical, ensuring everything was positioned for efficiency and long-term performance. While it may look tight during construction, this is where precision matters most.

The After: A True Primary Suite
The finished result is a clean, functional, and cohesive primary suite that feels like it was always part of the original design.
The new bathroom features:
A custom vanity with warm wood tones that tie into the home’s flooring
Matte black fixtures for a modern contrast
A walk-in shower with glass enclosure and subway tile surround
Durable, dark tile flooring that grounds the space
The relocated closet integrates seamlessly into the room, and the new layout creates a natural flow between the bedroom and bathroom.

Built to Evolve
This project is a great example of how a home can adapt over time. By reworking existing space instead of adding on, we were able to create a more functional, valuable living area while maintaining the integrity of the original build.
It’s always rewarding to come back to a home we built and help our clients take it to the next level.
